Pick up will take place from 7:00 – 7:30 am from your local hotel in Phong Nha. From there the tour will head an hour and a half to Tan Hoa office, located 70 km from Phong Nha. The drive is beautiful, passing alongside jungle, fields and over the historic Da Deo pass. During the drive, you’ll also listen to a safety briefing led by your experienced tour guide.
Arrive at the office around 9:00 am where you’ll sign your Release Form, and collect equipment such as jungle boots, water bottles, lights, helmets, etc. You can leave your extra luggage at our office in the storage room.
At around 9:30 am, the group will take a drive over to the drop off point and start at the trailhead by 10:00 am. The trek begins with a hike through the forest over a hill. The last kilometer before the cave is very rocky with many boulders, as if the cave terrain has spilled out onto the landscape in front of it. You’ll enter the spectacular cave and just inside, enjoy a BBQ feast, including fresh pork and traditional spring roll wraps (vegetarian option available). Around 12:30, you’ll start your exploration of the cave.
With formations rising up like a layer cake of rimstone pools and lush ferns, this cave is truly a unique specimen. As you explore, you’ll reach a small skylight in the cave, created from a shaft which overspills sunlight from the cave’s entrance. Beyond the skylight will be a ladder leading to the second section of the cave. You’ll venture through this next section of the cave, known as the high chamber. The exit of the cave lies just ahead – you have conquered Hang Tien!
You’ll make your way back, and get a chance to take a dip in the natural jungle pool you passed on the way in. You’ll have time for a coffee, a quick swim, and to take some photos before making your return journey.
You will be collected at the pickup point and head back to Tan Hoa. A shower awaits you at the office before the van ride back to Phong Nha at 6:00 pm. The tour will finish around 7:30 pm in Phong Nha.

Great experience! Great trek and first time caving experience and had a blast! The cave was amazing and the flying fox (zipline across roaring river inside the cave) was very cool! I'm not exactly very active at home but run 1-3 times a week for 30 mins. The trek was tough but definitely doable and breaks were adequate. Definitely be careful during the segment close to the entrance of the cave with many rocks and boulders you need to scrable over. Good grip shoes definitely necessary! Food was okay no complaints but I did stuff my face with rambutans because they are so expensive back home!

I did a 1 day tour of the Hang Tien cave and I cannot recommend this enough. This was a hugely memorable experience and one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had while travelling. I loved it for many reasons. Of course, the scenery was extremely beautiful and the cave very fascinating. However, the tour company, Oxalis, really made this exceptional. I enjoyed the fact that the group was quite small (11 of us), we had 2 guides and 2 safety assistants during the expedition who took good care of us. Plus the very good driver who I felt in safe hands with. Personnel were nice and friendly and knowledgeable. I was surprised (in a good way!) about the level of comfort we had. We had ample breaks to rest. Really superb lunch. Everything ran smoothly. One thing that is very important for me is the environment and it was evident throughout the day that team really do care for the environment. FYI - If you're concerned about getting wet/swimming - then this one is a dry cave experience. There is an option swim during the lunch break for those interested. I'm really excited about returning again to do one of the longer expeditions.

Guides took me and my daughters to Hang Tien--about a 2-mile walk in through second-growth jungle, to a fabulous cave. The guides were energetic and helpful. We had lunch (ok, nothing special) at a nearby campground on a lake. The trip starts from a staging area, where boots and other equipment are provided. The boots have very thin soles and my feet hurt quite a bit after from walking on rocky trails and gnarly formations in the cave. But overall, a very fine experience. I'd love to do it again.
